Subject: V S Update Xmas Edition

Here’s the final V S Update for 2012 but I will be continuing to update the website over the holiday period.

Xmas Handicap

Everyone is welcome to run the Club Handicap on Monday 2 January.  We’ll meet at the lodge by Eccup reservoir at 11a.m.   The postcode is LS17 7RW – it is down a footpath from Alwoodley Lane.  It’s a 5 mile run on the footpath and road round the reservoir almost to Eccup village and back.  We will have some marshals on the route!  The slowest runners set off first, the fastest last.  We normally have 30 to 40 runners. Afterwards you are invited back to Leo’s – the bar will be open but bring food to share.

There will also be a junior 1 mile run while the 5 mile run is in progress.  The juniors will start after the last 5 mile has set off.  This will be half a mile on the reservoir footpath, turn round (near the little biridge) and return.  NB one parent would need to stay to watch the junior run if the other is running the 5 mile!

Xmas Training Diary

·         Tue 27 Dec - Run Leeds group NO SESSION

·         Tue 27 Dec - Valley Striders meet Leos 7:00pm, for hill session at Church Lane M/wood NB Clubhouse changing & showers open but bar closed

·         Thu 5 Jan - meet Scott Hall 6:45pm for steady 7 miles at 8 to 9 minute mile pace (with stops)

·         No Sunday session on 25 December but I believe there is a Saturday session at 9am (athough most of us, at that time, will be queuing in Tescos to pay for the sprouts)

Tuesday 6pm Group (“Run Leeds”)

Note that for our Tuesday 6pm group we are now offering two alternative sessions, weather permitting

·         Under floodlights on the rugby pitch (providing it’s not very wet/muddy) – various reps and relays

·         On the road on the Buckstone estate (providing it’s not icy) – loops of 400 metres or 1km or short hills

So, if you have friends who want to run with a group but think the Striders sessions are too fast then please recommend to them the Tuesday 6pm session – email [email protected] for more details.  The session is open to all V S members too who want a slightly shorter session (maybe slower but definitely not “easier”).
