Run Leeds @ Alwoodley

Six “Run England” groups were started by running clubs in Leeds in March 2011 and branded “Run Leeds”.

“Run in Leeds @ Alwoodley” is hosted by Valley Striders at Leodiensian Club, Crag Lane, off King Lane, LS17 5PR, on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 7pm.

The group is geared towards helping and encouraging those new to running/jogging. It caters for beginners (minimum requirement is to be capable of walking for an hour) and improvers (social runners and those who have occasionally run 5k or 10k).

NB Those who have run faster than 25 minutes for 5k or faster than 55 minutes for 10k are recommended to join the Valley Striders club sessions (but still make contact using the email address below)

It was originally established to help those running the Jane Tomlinson 10k on Sunday 19th June 2011. It has continued since to provide training for those wanting to compete various 5k, 5 mile or 10 mile races, or just to keep fit and enjoy running.

Group Leaders have all been on an England Athletics “Leadership in Running and Fitness” Course.  We have between 2 and 5 group leaders at every session, therefore can split into smaller groups at times as appropriate, and have time to spend with individuals.

Sessions cost £1.50 per night or £10 for 3 months.  These charges pay for hire of the facilities (changing, showers etc), and include a small contribution to club funds.  Your first two sessions are free of charge!

Note that Run in Leeds @ Alwoodley group is at a different time from Valley Striders club sessions. There is absolutely no requirement (and no pressure) to join Valley Striders.

Kathy Kaiser, the main group leader, says “I have been running at various levels for over 20 years. I first started running to lose weight, which I did successfully. But the enjoyment and satisfaction that running gave me took hold so I continued running. I would now like to be instrumental in introducing others to discover the enjoyment and satisfaction running can give and support them in the process”

Please register your interest before coming to your first session.
