Please order to [email protected] by 9pm Sunday 2 December stating how many portions of chili you require and how many portions of mac'n'cheese.

Pay on the night, but if you order and then don't turn up, if we're not able to re-sell your portion(s), you will be liable to pay.

Adults food will be available at 8:30pm, see Facebook post to order.

Junior Training

Apologies that we had to cancel this week's session at such short notice but the weather had turned quickly.  We will always let you know of cancellations by posting in the Junior FB group and also try to get the information on the website. V S Juniors Xmas Party - Tuesday 18 December

We're pleased to announce that the V S Junior Xmas Party is back after an absence of 3 years, so thanks to Sarah Diamond (Tally and Zain's mum) for volunteering to organise this.

There's not sufficient space at Leos so Sarah has booked the function room at the High Farm, Farrar Lane, LS16 7AQ (near Asda) on Tuesday 18 September from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

Sarah has booked children's entertainers "Dash of Wonder" featuring Buddy the Elf and Princess Elsa to entertain the kids with age appropriate games to suit all for the first hour. There will also be a snow and bubble machine for extra entertainment.

Food for kids will be pizza and chips and a small buffet. There will also be a buffet for adults who want to eat.

Price is £5 for kids, £3.50 for adults.  To book, please pay to to the VS Payments account - Sort code: 53-70-00, a/c number: 72143851. Please reference with your full name and 'Junior Xmas'.  (we can work out how many junior meals and how many adult meals you've ordered from the price you've paid).

If you've any questions please add to the posts in the V S Juniors FB group or email [email protected] (we prefer you use facebook)

Town Moor Marathon and Half Marathon

These races take place on Newcastle Town Moor; the marathon is 7 laps and the half marathon a short lap then 3 full laps.  There is one drinks station!

Marathon - Myra Jones 3:11:17, 8th overall and 1st woman (120 started 106 finished)

Half Marathon - Ian Sanderson 1:26:18 2nd overall and 1st M45 (2 mins behind winner) (110 finished)

Harrier vs Cyclists Race - Bingley Rugby Club to Baildon Moor and back

When the patented Vallance-Murray rules are applied, the Fisherman's trophy returns to the Harriers. Total score was H 372: C 786. Lowest total wins (Collar either of us for a full explanation at the Xmas party, but basically we add together the finishing places of top 5 from each team then deduct 10 points for every team member). Great effort all, and I hope we have even more taking part next year.

West Yorkshire Track and Field Championships

I've just realised that these results (from early September) haven't appeared in any V S Update.

Valley Striders juniors collected 3 silver and 3 bronze medals and, in true GB style, an array of 4ths 5ths and 6ths.

Race Reports

Holmfirth 15 - 30 October 2018 - from Chris Sawyer

The Holmfirth 15 does not appear to be as important as it once was. Only 112 runners completed the two lap course although 187 did run the 10k.

The 15 mile trace is two laps with a loop at the beginning to add the extra distance. It is mainly run on pavements alongside A roads and features long steady downhill sections but two steep climbs which of course you do twice in the 15 miler. The reward was a fleece hat - as indeed it was when I last ran the race back in 2002.

I was 58th of the 112 finishers in a time of 2:08:18.

Rob Hamilton was 16th out of 187 in the 10k in a time of 41:44.

Thirteen Arches Trail Half - 18 November 2018 - from Chris Sawyer

This race starts and finishes in Radcliffe near Manchester. The race was a sell-out. The route is almost entirely off road and takes you to Prestwich and back through parkland and along the path of a disused railway. The Thirteen Arches in the title is a railway viaduct close to the M60 which you run close to. The most unnerving section was a footbridge across the M60 which built up quite a vibration as the runners passed over it especially on the outward journey. For a trail race in November there was not a lot of mud. The distance according to Strava was a little short of 13 miles. My time was 1:54:31 and I was 165th out of 403.
