Peco Cross Country (from Myra Jones and Bob Jackson)

This year all entries are online and you can either enter the whole series or each race individually.  If you're going to run 3 or more races, it is cheaper to enter the whole series

VALLEY STRIDERS JUNIORS SHOULD NOT ENTER YET, WE WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH A DISCOUNT CODE FOR FREE ENTRY

Online entry will open on Monday 15th October, and will close (for series entries) on Thursday 15th November (10 days before Race 1). This will allow for series race numbers to be personalised with the runner's name and club (which should minimise the risk of anyone running in the wrong number). Individual race entries will remain open (for Race 1) until Friday 23rd November).

NB Seniors (i.e. adults) are required to input their England Athletics affiliation/registration number.  If you don't know your number, see www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsmemreg.htm

Entry
1) Senior series entry (chip timing race number & 5 race entries) at a total cost of £14. Series race numbers can be collected from your Club Representative on or before the first race. After this, just turn up and run - no need to queue for registration, etc.
2) Senior single race entry (chip timing number & 1 race entry) at a total cost of £7 (£3 for the race number, £4 for race entry). After this, subsequent races can be entered at a cost of £4 per race (provided the original race number is not lost / destroyed / forgotten)
3) Junior series entry (chip timing race number & 5 race entries) at a total cost of £6. Series race numbers can be collected from club reps / junior reps on the morning of the first race. After this, just turn up and run.
4) Junior single race entry (chip timing number & 1 race entry) at a total cost of £4 (£2.50 for the race number, £1.50 for race entry). After this, subsequent races can be entered at a cost of £1.50 per race (provided the original race number is not lost / destroyed / forgotten)

Hoodies ...

It's time to order VS hoodies! You have until midnight on 5th November to order and pay.

You can order in 3 easy steps:
1) Choose what you want - all the details are on the kit page of the website http://www.valleystriders.org.uk/vskit.htm
2) Email your order to [email protected]
3) Make correct payment to: Sort code: 53 70 00, Account: 72143851, Reference: "Hoodie" and your name

The hoodies are the same as we've ordered for the last few years so if you want to try for size I'm sure someone will be happy to let you try theirs on. Feedback is they are small for size.

When you email your order you must include details of what you want from the following options:
- Full Zip / Pullover
- Black / Grey (pullover only comes in black)
- Mens / Ladies / Junior
- Size
- Text you want embroidered on the right chest

Thanks to Bethany Lovell for volunteering to manage the orders.

and Buffs

We have 25 Valley Striders AC buffs (multi-functional headwear) in stock and available to order, £7 each. There is just one design (black with white lettering) and one size fits all (should be fine for most kids too).

1) Email your order to [email protected]
2) Make correct payment to: Sort code: 53 70 00, Account: 72143851, Reference: "Buff" and your name as the reference.

London Marathon - club entries

For those of you who have been unsuccessful in the London Marathon Ballot, we are now taking applications for the club places we will be allocated.

We currently have 242 1st claim senior members so will only have 2 places this year. We will need to have 251 1st claim senior members by 5th November in order to qualify for a 3rd place.

Please email [email protected]  if you would like to apply for a place. We will close entries at 10pm on 6th November.

Here are the details of the selection process. Please let me know if you have any questions.

A minimum pass/fail criteria (in priority order)
1) Member for 12 months (1st claim);
2) Rejection slip/email from this year's ballot;
3) Not had club place before.

If the number of people meeting all of the above criteria exceeds the places we have been allocated then we move onto scoring (only 1 point per area so max score of 4).
1 point for coaching/leading sessions;
1 point for taking on a 2%/committee role/marshaling at MVT;
1 point for 4 grand prix races;
1 point for participating in any of the following: club relay team or cross country (PECO/WYXC/Yorkshire/Northern/National) .

If there are still more applicants than entries we will pick names out of a hat.

RACE REPORT

The Hebridean Challenge and the Hardrock Challenge (from Kim Spence)

Kim emailed "This is quite a lengthy report so I am not sure if you want to post it but thought I would send it to you anyway..."

I've uploaded it to the website and you can read it at www.valleystriders.org.uk/Kim-Spence-Hebrides.doc
