Meanwood Trail Junior Races - Tuesday 15 May - Help Required!

Help required please from adult club members as well as parents of juniors!

We still need
- 4 more on car parking (we have 2) (5:30pm to 6:45pm so would suit those wanting to run in the 7pm session)
- 3 more on registration and results (we have 2) (5:30pm to 8pm but we can let at least one leave early at 6:45pm)
- 7 more marshals (we have 16) (ideally 6pm to 8pm, but if you can arrive by 6:20pm we have locations for you)
- 0 more dedicated first aiders (we have 6) but if you marshal please let us know if you are a qualified first aider as we will distribute our "extra" first aiders around the course.
- 5 more on the finish line (we have 7) (6:15pm to 8pm).
- 1 tail runner (6:15pm to 8pm)

Please note that the times above are BST (British Summer Time) not VST (Valley Striders Time), you must arrive on time.

If you can help, please email [email protected]

For a list of marshals so far, see www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsmarshals.htm

Meanwood Trail Junior Races - Tuesday 15 May - Runners Required!

Firstly a reminder that if you want to run, you must register before Sunday 13 May at 10pm.

Registration does not oblige you to run, but we hope most will!

So far we have 45 registered in total of whom
- 28 are V S junior members (this is less than a third of our membership)
- 3 have been invited by VS members (I was hoping that each member would invite at least one friend from their school running club/team or football team or from their class)
- 4 are on the V S waiting list (there are a lot more on the waiting list, all are invited)
- 10 are in Leeds Junior Race Series.

Note that V S junior members may invite up to 2 friends and V S adult members may invite junior relations.

For more information, a course map and how to enter the races, click on www.valleystriders.org.uk/mvjr.htm

York Track & Field

For those who want to try track and field but don't want to get stuck in rush hour traffic on a Wednesday evening on the M1 or M621, we are looking at the York Summer League.

There are 3 meetings to go, all are at weekends, all have a full programme of events and athletes can choose to take part in up to 3 events at each meeting (unlike West Yorks evening meetings when most age-groups only have 2 events available).

Dates are Saturday 2 June, Saturday 16 June and Sunday 15 July.  You don't have to enter all, you just enter one at a time, £2.50 per event, max 3 events per meeting, can do different events at different meetings.

Josie Pawley has been to the first meeting of the league today and Graham says "It was good. Good location with a covered stand to keep you dry (or cool) and friendly organisation. Mixed abilities so even slower runners would enjoy it and not feel out of their comfort zone".

If we decide to enter, we'll use the sessions at GSAL to practice the field events.

West Yorks Track & Field Meeting 2 at Cleckheaton

6 junior boys and 5 junior girls competed last Wednesday, including Billy and Christa making debuts at track & field for VS.

Again a mention for Isaac and James who'd never high jumped before but had prepared by watching YouTube videos.
