Membership Renewals - Very Final Reminder

We are now over half way through the Valley Striders year.  Thank you to the 377 who have paid, but we still are waiting for payment (or resignation) from 33.

If you wish to continue your membership with Valley Striders and are not sure whether you have paid, please check www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsmemreg.htm and if it says "DUE" by your name please pay within the next 7 days.  This page also shows the various membership categories and rates; please email [email protected] if you wish to discuss your options.

Please note that those not renewing will not have their England Athletics affiliation renewed on 1 April and so will not be able to claim the £2 reduction in race fees.  Also those not renewing will be removed from Facebook Groups and the V S Update distribution list.

Meanwood Trail Junior Races organised by Valley Striders on Tuesday 15 May

We are hoping to put on junior races from Leos around the fields and woods.

In the past we have put on 1 mile and 2 mile races for juniors, but, to recognise the return to Leos, we are going metric for this "new" event.

School years 3 and 4 (year 2 may run), approximately 1km
School years 5 and 6, approximately 2km
School years 7 and above, approximately 3km

Those VS juniors who paid £20 or more for membership have free entry for these races.

That's the plan, but there is some preparation to do before we can confirm the event will take place

First Aid: we need a team of first aiders on the night and if we have sufficient numbers they will be able to work in a rota so they aren't on call while their child is running.  Please email [email protected] if you are willing to be part of this team.  We also need 2 joint team leaders to organise the rota and co-ordinate the team on the night (and call emergency services if needed), please let us know if you can do this.

Promotion: we will be getting some promotional cards printed and we need a number of people to distribute these (a) in the local schools (b) at the 5 junior parkruns in Leeds.  Please email [email protected] if are willing to be part of this team and say which school or parkrun you can cover.  We also need one person to co-ordinate this (any volunteers?).  The cards will be printed in the Easter holidays and should be distributed in the first two weeks after return to school, this will give a little bit of time for people to put it in their diaries.  The cards will be A6 single sided, does anyone have contacts for printing?

Marshals: we will need a lot of marshals and other "officials" on the evening, please email [email protected] and say whether you are probably or possibly available to help

Request for photos

As you may know, we are working to modernise our website, and you may have seen the requests for photographs on Facebook. Thanks to those who have already sent theirs in, but we could still do with some more. We are looking for recent group photos, preferably in VS kit, maybe even looking happy! We do need original image files though, so if you have any that you have taken then please upload them to the following Dropbox link:

Message from Leos

Dear Friend of Leos

Friday 11th and Saturday 12th of May should be firmly in your diaries for Yorkshire's pinnacle event - Leosfest 18 at Leos Rugby Club, Alwoodley. This marks the 6th annual event and should prove to be bigger and better than ever. The club has plans for expansion and improvement works including WC's (cash already raised), repair Crag Lane, bar and function room refurbishments and pitch improvement, specifically drainage. All this is aimed towards providing a facility for rugby, cricket, athletics and other sports that is open to the community and accessible.

To do this we rely on fund raising but we hope we put on some events to make that support worthwhile. As well as encouraging you to attend the weekend and complete the challenge of trying every drink on offer, we need your sponsorship. There are three options as below.

1) Corporate Afternoon. Friday 11th May 1pm - 5.30pm. The grand opening to the weekend is the Corporate Afternoon with first chance to try the beer and a superb an opportunity to entertain staff, clients or friends in the idyllic setting in Alwoodley Woods. Sunshine guaranteed. The cost is £250 and for this you and your 6 guests (additional guests available at £35 each) can enjoy unlimited ale, some wholesome hearty food and exclusive banter! Your company or name will be listed in the event programme.

2) Barrel Sponsor. Ever had a beer named after you? A fantastic opportunity to sponsor one of the beers at £80 for an individual (£100 for company sponsor). Name listed in the programme.

3) Programme Adverts £150 half page £250 full page

Please come back to me to confirm sponsorship and we look forward to seeing you on the 11th May.

Many thanks

Dave Robinson - [email protected]
