Leos Raffle and Race Night 17 February (from Steph Gledhill)

Leo's are hosting a race night this Saturday 17 February to raise funds for the club and to draw the raffle. It's a fiver on the door and starts at 7:30.

The fundraising is to improve facilities such as the toilets, also the back field which V S juniors will make use of in the summer.  Please support the Rugby Club by buying a ticket.

The raffle prizes look really good, the top 3 are a £2000 Virgin Holiday, £500 John Lewis vouchers and a pair of tickets for an England Rugby international match at Twickenham.

If you''d like a ticket and can't get to the club, please email me at [email protected]

More details on Facebook.  Any queries, please email me at [email protected]

Training - Tuesday 13 February

Juniors and beginners/improvers from Leos at 6pm

Advanced and intermediate runners at Beckett Park track at 7pm

For both sessions there are more details and some important announcements on the website home page www.valleystriders.org.uk

Training and Food - Tuesday 20 February

All training sessions from Leos

All juniors and beginners/improvers should bring off-road shoes.  Juniors in the "C" group and beginners/improvers are also requested to bring hi-vis and road shoes in case we decide these groups will be on the pavements on the Buckstone Estate.

Food will be available after both sessions. On the menu is curry (chicken or veggie alternative). To order, please email
- [email protected] (for food at 7:15pm after the 6pm session)
- [email protected]  (for food at 8:30pm after the 7pm session)
before 10pm on Sunday 18th, saying whether you want a full portion (£4) or a half portion (£2), and whether you want the meat or veggie option.

Meanwood Junior Races meeting and Meanwood Trail Race meeting - 20 Feb

After the 6pm session all parents are requested to attend a very brief meeting to discuss the Meanwood Trail Junior Races which are planned to take place on Tuesday 15 May.

After the 7pm session, there will be a meeting to discuss the Meanwood Trail Race which will take place on a weekend at the end of September or beginning of October.  All welcome.

Yorkshire Vets XC - 4 March - closing date 23 February (from Steve Webb)

Yorkshire Vets XC Champs is on Sunday 4 March at Spen (same venue as WYXC race 3 this season).

It's a really good event and open to all Over 35s.
- Race 1 is all women plus V70+ men, 5.2k, starts 12.00
- Race 2 is V50+ men, 9.0k, starts 12.30
- Race 3 is V35+ men, 9.0k, starts 13.45

We've had some good results in recent years, particularly in the V50 men.  Last year Tim got bronze and the team won gold.  In 2016 Jerry got bronze and the team won silver, in 2014 the team got silver, and in 2013 Steve won individual silver.  In addition to the normal medals for a team of 3, there is an "all to score" team competition where it pays to flood the field with entries.

It would be good to see a few VS representatives from the other veteran classes, and our lady vets certainly have a good chance of getting among the medals.

There are more details about the event at www.yvaa.org/championships/

There is a Facebook post which can be used to discuss who is going, transport etc.

To enter, please email [email protected] saying "probable" or "possible".  If/when you decide you definitely want to enter, please pay £6 to the AC Payments account Sort Code: 53-70-00 A/c Number: 72143851 with reference "YVXC" and your name".  Must be paid by Friday 23 February

Hope to see you there.

Steve

Northern Road Relays - 25 March (from Myra Jones and John Hobbs)

The spring road relays (12 stage for men and 6 stage for women) are approaching. Northerns are in Birkenhead on Sunday 25th March and the Nationals are in Birmingham on Saturday 14th April. The men will need to qualify at the Northerns to get to the Nationals but women's teams don't, so the women could just go straight to the nationals. A few of us have competed in these relays before and they are really good events.  The relays are a mixture of 5 mile and 3 mile legs (approx).

Also Young Athletes Road Championships 5k (3 to count per team).
- U15 - Age 13 or 14 at midnight 31st August / 1st September 2017
- U17 - Age 15 or 16 at midnight 31st August / 1st September 2017

We still need (at least) 2 men and 2 women.

Please email [email protected]  if you'd like to run.

The deadline is 26 February but we're looking into getting a team bus to travel over so it would be great if people could let us know ASAP.

Peco Relays Sunday 25 March

Please keep this date free (unless you're doing the Northern Road Relays), these are for teams of three and there are various age categories for juniors and seniors.  The event is likely to be in Leeds.

V S Grand Prix and V S Fell Championships - race calendar

All the events in both competitions are now listed on the website.  www.valleystriders.org.u/vsdates.htm .

This calendar also includes all
- Yorkshire Vets Championship events
- Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix events
- West Yorkshire Track and Field dates and locations
- West Yorkshire Cross Country weekend dates

The league tables for VSGP and VSFC are now up to date on the website.

Steve Webb says "The Fell Championship is getting serious; Jon P and Kim S have got into pole position"

It was pure coincidence that the profit came out as a nice round number (or perfect planning by those who set the price).

We will be sending £150 each to YAA and Lineham Farm.

Also it was agreed at the Runners' AGM in November that the club would donate £500 to charity so an extra £250 will be going to each of YAA and Lineham Farm.
