Leeds Country Way Sunday 3 September (from Myra)

Last week a few dropped out and we have now called up all our reserves, we have none left.

If you're available, please email [email protected].  If you have commitments part of the day, let us know the times when you are available. Thanks.

Hoping everyone else has done or planned their recces.

Roundhay Parkrun Take Over Saturday 9 September (from Steph)

We've been asked to take over the Roundhay parkrun. This will be on the 9th September the day before Vale of York so hopefully there'll be plenty of volunteers.

We are looking for Marshalls, Pacers (lots please, any times, would be good to get a few over 30 mins), Race Director, Time keepers, Barcode Scanners, Token people, Funnel Ducker manager, tail runner...

If you'd like to volunteer please accept the event invite on Facebook or email [email protected]  and state if you have a specific role you'd like to do.

Junior 1 mile and Club Autumn Handicap Tuesday 12 September

All races are free to enter and all races are open to club members and non-members including friends of existing members and juniors on the waiting list.  Could non-members and waiting list please email [email protected] to let us know in advance?

Meeting place for race start and postcode for parking are on the front page of the website www.valleystriders.org.uk.  Note that it is a 3 minute jog / 6 minute walk from Alwoodley Lane to the start.

On the night, we will be asking parents of juniors to marshal along the half mile length of the junior route as (especially if it is a nice evening) there are likely to be walkers, dogs and bicycles on the route.

We need a few marshals for the 5 mile race, if you can help please email Sue Sunderland [email protected] . The race can't take place without these marshals.

West Yorkshire Track and Field League (from Bob Jackson)

16 clubs took part in the West Yorkshire T & F League this summer and Valley Striders finished 13th overall.

10 VS athletes (9 juniors and 1 veteran) took part - Alfie Jones, Florence Pell, Imogen Idle, Jack Woodeson, Jamie Walker, Jason Twigg, Leon Jones, Pete Twigg, Sofia Robottom and Toby Walker.  Over the 5 meetings, they competed in 55 events.  Points were available for places down to 6th and most of our athletes scored some points; those that didn't were in the more popular events where up to 47 athletes were competing.  I thought it rather unfair that 7th in an event with 47 competing scored no points, but 6th in an event with 6 competing scored 1 point.

For V S results and full results see http://valleystriders.org.uk/wytf.htm

Good luck to 4 of our junior athletes who are competing in the League Championships on 10 September.
