Results and Reports

It has been 2 weeks since the last V S Update but this week's edition is rather thin as I only have results from 5 races (but 4 of them had only one Strider running!) and a report from one other race.

Please send your results to [email protected] (in particular any marathons, half marathons and ultra races - all of these are eligible for GP points)

Please send your reports to [email protected]

Upcoming Events

VS Annual Events

Two of our biggest events of the year are on the horizon, the club barbecue in August and the Leeds Country Way Relay in September.  Information about these will be in a V S Update and on Facebook soon.

West Yorks T & F - Wed 28 June

At Wakefield. For anyone not registered, it is too late to enter, but there are 2 more meetings in the series - Wednesday 19th July at Cleckheaton and Sunday 6th August Wakefield.  Entry is just £4 in total.  Under 11's get 1 track, 1 field at Cleckheaton, 2 track, 1 field at Wakefield.  Other age groups get 2 track, 1 field at both.  This is a great opportunity for our juniors to gain some experience with no pressure, then be ready to take part next year.

Hyde Park mile and junior half mile - Wed 28 June

The 1 mile race is full.  There is a half mile race for ages 11 to 15, entries still open at www.racebest.com, must pre-enter.  In Leeds Junior Race Series - see www.leedsathletics.net

Eccup 10 and junior races - Sun 2 July

The Eccup 10 race is full.  Entries still available for the junior races at 9am - 1 mile for school years and 2 miles for school years (distances are approximate).   www.racebest.com £3 for pre - entry via www.racebest.com ; £5 on the day if not full.  I can see 8 V S juniors have already entered but hopefully there will be more (make a change from junior parkrun).  In Leeds Junior Race Series.

Danefield Relay - Tue 4 July

RACE REPORTS

Bardsey Bound (from John Hussey)

Bardsey Bound 7th June 2017

This event was the first of this year's Country Trail Series and was organised by Roundhay Runners from the Bingley Arms at Bardsey. The idea is to arrive between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, register and pick up your set of route instructions. The cost is only £5 which includes a £2 voucher for the bar afterwards so it's a bargain price for an evening event.

Runners set off when they are ready either by themselves or in small groups and attempt to follow the instructions for the route which is around 10Km. Careful reading and attention to detail is essential but it's always good fun to see some of the runners going off in the wrong direction and having to turn around!

There were 69 runners with 8 Valley Striders as follows:

Amanda Seims 52.31 (7th place, 1st lady)

Rachel Mackie 55.54  (9th place, joint 2nd lady)

Sarah Grant 55.54  (9th place, joint 2nd lady)

Hannah Corne 74:48

Elaine Craiggs 75:55

Jean Hussey 101:55

John Hussey 101:55

Anne Jones 101:55

These are always great social events and explore areas around Leeds which I hardly knew existed. The next event is the Ledsham Leap based at the Chequers Inn, Ledsham. The routes are mainly off road, not technical to run and the route finding adds another spark to the run. Why not join us there!

After Amanda's comments about my casual approach to the race I promise to put more effort in next time with less chatting - well I'll try anyway!
