V S Update - 25 March 2017
Tuesday
28 March Training - all groups from Leos
Advanced
Summer Training at Eccup (message from Steph Gledhill)
Summer
training at Eccup reservoir will start again with the 3x10 session on Tuesday
4th April.
There
are two options when running from the club, on road or partly off road.
We
will follow the on road route on the first night due to it still getting dark
early-ish.
Once
the nights get lighter people will have the option to run off road there and
back.
The
on road route is up The Avenue, turn right at the top,
cross over Alwoodley Lane and down Goodrick Lane
(same place as the handicap races).
The
off road route heads up The Avenue, then turns off to the left along The
Quarry, cross Alwoodley Lane to Lakeland Crescent, you then access the fields,
head down the field to the bottom, over the style, then follow the path round
the field to your right.
The
intermediates summer training start date will be posted soon.
Food
We're hoping to have food at Far Moss soon, will let you
know by email and Facebook groups.
West
Yorkshire Track and Field
A reminder that entries must be posted, and must arrive by 4 April.

Bradford
Millennium Way Relay (message from Myra Jones)
The
Bradford Millennium Way Relay is taking place on 25th June this year. The relay is made up of 5 legs of between 8
and 11 miles and
each leg is run as a pair. It would be
great if we could enter a couple of teams.
It's
a lovely trail route that doesn't actually go near Bradford,
instead you'll take in the delights of Bingley, Haworth, Laycock
(near Keighley), Silsden and Ilkley. If you would like to run and/or if you have any questions please
email [email protected]
.
We
would like to sort the teams out over the Easter weekend so that we have plenty
of time to recce, so please let us know if you can run by 15th April.
Wetherby
10k / Leeds Country Way Relay
I've
seen that early bird entries have just opened for the Wetherby 10k. PLEASE
RESIST TEMPTATION. This is almost certainly the same day as the Leeds Country
Way Relay. Striders policy is to guarantee a run to at least the first 12
Striders who put their names forward irrespective of pace, hopefully we'll have
5 teams again this year.
Race
Results (message from Graham Jones)
All
Valley Striders results from road races and multi-terrain races (plus some
trail races over a measured course) are included in our Performance
Database. We use this for the VS Grand
Prix; for calculating club handicap start times; and for choosing relay team
pairings. In theory, we also use it for
age-graded performance awards, though we've not publicised these for a while.
We
will collate results from any races on the http://valleystriders.org.uk/vsdates.htm
web page, plus some other local
races. However, if you've raced further
afield, you can let us know by emailing race results to [email protected]
. Please provide the name and date of
the race, the measured distance, and your position and time (chip time if
available). It would be helpful if you
could include the web link for the full set of results, so we can pick up
results for all Valley Striders. Thanks.
Fell
Calendar (message from Amanda Seims)
I
assume most people won't have seen this (and not everyone is on facebook) but I am compiling a calendar of off-road events
to include local, national and international that may be of interest to people
in the club. With off-road events they are dotted about on multiple sites so
I'm hoping this will give me a way of keeping track of what's on.
It's
an online shared document so anyone can edit and add to it (autosaves
as you go). I've tried to include a lot of info which may be too much info for
some but I think it's all fairly handy (I should probably add a column to show
events that are in the Fell champs though!).
Worth a look over.

Leeds
Race Series (message from Bob Jackson)
The
2017 Leeds Race Series comprises all the races organised / promoted by Leeds
clubs plus the 6 parkruns in Leeds, approximately 21 races in total. The Series is free to enter (of course you do
have to pay for each race). The scoring
works on a Grand Prix format, 1000 for the fastest LRS entrant at an event 999
for the next, etc, and it is best 8 races to count
with other prizes for age group categories and most events completed. It is mildly competitive (just like parkrun).
In
the 2017 series there has been one race so far (Templenewsam Ten) but really
gets going in April with the Bramley parkrun and the Guiseley Gallop. For more details go to www.leedsathletics.net and click on
the link for Leeds Race Series for the calendar of events.
There
is also a Junior Race Series for 1 September 2016 to 31 August 2017. It is not too late to enter and if you ran
any of the earlier races (e.g. Peco Junior XC) you will get points
retrospectively.

On
4th Feb this year Rachel Watson tragically lost her life whilst out running on
the Ring Road near Moortown. Rachel was a much loved
mum to her 3 young boys and a much loved wife, sister, daughter, friend etc. It
has devastated and shocked all who knew Rachel or heard of her death including
our small school community.
Rachel
was training for Leeds Half Marathon that morning which takes place this May.
In her memory and as a tribute to her and in support of her family, a group of
29 of us (and growing by the day) are running the Leeds Half Marathon for
Rachel and at the same time we are fundraising for a charity called Winston's
Wish (an amazing charity who support bereaved children and their families).
They
are currently supporting Rachel's family at this very difficult time.
If
you would like to make a donation to Winston's Wish, we have a group just
giving page:
https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/running-for-RachelWatson
Or
you can text RACW80 and your donation to 70070 (e.g. RACW80 £5). Valid donation values are £1, £2, £3, £5, £10
We
would be grateful of all support. Thank
you
