Training on Tuesday 12 April
We
are hoping that juniors, beginners and improvers will all be at Grammar School
at Leeds, just waiting confirmation of the booking.
Please check the front page of our website www.valleystriders.org.uk for
updates. Also see the website for links
to maps for parking,
We will have more space at GSAL so all fully
paid-up junior members are invited (check on www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsmemreg.htm
for payment status). It will be
"Happy New Year" to many of you, sorry it
has been so long.
Experienced runners will be at Leeds Met, see
the front page of our website for maps.
For this week only, I advise intermediates to
choose between joining the 6pm improvers or 7pm experienced runners, but see
Facebook for any changes.
Meeting of Parents of Juniors
Notes from the Meeting of Parents are at http://valleystriders.org.uk/Parents-Meeting-22-Mar-2016-Matters-Discussed-and-Actions.htm
One item was the proposal to put on the MVT
Junior Race as an evening event, and all were in favour. 6 people volunteered to be a committee, we
have had 2 meetings, we have proved the event can be financially viable, the
main concern is that we have sufficient marshals ...
Meanwood Valley Trail Junior Races - Tuesday 14 June
The proposed date is 14 June, starting at 18:45
with a 1 mile race for school years 3-4, followed by races for years 5-6 (1
mile), 7-8 (2 miles) and 9-12 (2 miles).
(Having a number of smaller races has proved a successful format at Hyde
Park and gives more interest to the evening).
We also have publicity ready and a plan to cover all the local junior
and senior parkruns.
But we're not willing to launch the event
without being sure that we'll have enough marshals and officials (entries,
timekeepers, recorders, computer results etc).
If you are likely
to be available to help on 14 June please email [email protected] immediately! NB we realise this is a long way in advance
to commit, and so will understand if a few have to give back word nearer the
date. Check names at www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsmarshals.htm
.
This page also links to a route map.
Vets Race on Tuesday 21 June - Marshals Required
We still have only just over half of the
marshals needed to support this race. We
need 6 people to come at 6pm and the rest at 6:45pm. I want to be confident that we have
sufficient marshals, without chasing at the last minute, before I commit to
putting on this event.
Note that food is provided for marshals and
generally a good time is had by all!
Most marshals will have finished by 8:30pm.
If you are likely
to be available to help on 21 June please email [email protected] immediately!
NB I realise this is a long way in advance to commit, and so will understand if
a few have to give back word nearer the date.
Check names at www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsmarshals.htm
Yorkshire Vets
"Our" race on 21 June (if on) will
be part of the Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix.
The Grand Prix consists of 10 (or 9) races, see www.yvaa.org .
Valley Striders is affiliated to YVAA, so our club members are eligible
to enter. The definition of a vet is
aged 35 or over, but YVAA also allow runners aged 33 or 34 to enter (is it to practise being "old"?!). The 2016 GP hasn't started yet - the first
race will be on 24 April. (thanks to Maureen for
her post on Facebook).
England Athletics Membership Renewals
The new EA year started on 1 April. We will automatically renew your affiliation
fee this month if you have paid the full adult rate for the V S year starting 1
September 2015. To check your membership
status, please go to www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsmemreg.htm
.
This year we will also be checking that you
are not in arrears for any payments, e.g. West Yorkshire Cross Country, Xmas
party, Peco XC, and will not be renewing until any outstanding arrears is paid. If you are concerned whether you owe
anything, please email Simon Midwood at [email protected]
