Juniors Training on 5 April

Unless we get severe weather over the weekend, we have a plan for next Tuesday and are able to invite all full paid-up junior members (check on www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsmemreg.htm)

We will have 4 groups, one of which will be a fell-running training session led by Ross and Simon, two of our most experienced fell runners.  Simon is a qualified leader in Fell Running.  Anyone wanting to run in this group must be at Leos before 6pm on the night, and then we will select

Lasagne is on - for food at 7:15pm book at [email protected] .  Book before 10pm  Sunday 3 April, choosing meat or veggie lasagne (£3.50). Pay on the night, but note that if you order but don't turn up, you will need to pay unless we can re-sell your food.

Other Sessions and Food on 5 April

At 6pm there will be a beginners/improvers session.  At 7pm, there will be a choice of 3 sessions, experienced runners, intermediates and fell runners.  The experienced runners session will meet at Leos for 3 *10 mins at Eccup Res.  The intermediates may do the same session, but jog to the session up The Avenue rather than across the fields.  For details of the fell session, see the Facebook group.

Lasagne is on - for food at 8:30pm book at [email protected]  .  Book before 10pm  Sunday 3 April, choosing meat or veggie lasagne (£3.50). Pay on the night, but note that if you order but don't turn up, you will need to pay unless we can re-sell your food.

Club AGM and Meeting of Parents

The new committee proposed in John Wallace's email http://valleystriders.org.uk/AGM-22-Mar-2016-Announcement.htm was voted in unanimously.

Notes from the Meeting of Parents will be posted on the website soon.

West Yorkshire Track and Field League

Valley Striders have entered this league.  The first event is on Sunday 17 April and then there are 6 more dates through the summer.  For further information, click on "Team Competition" in the top bar of the website.  This includes a schedule and an entry form.  Entries need to be in by 4 April.

Juniors are encouraged to take part in field events as well as track, and hopefully we'll do a bit of long jump training at GSAL in April.  Note hat under-11's (see definition on website) don't need EA affiliation.

Any queries to [email protected].

Calderdale Way Relay and Bradford Millennium Way Relay

CWR is on Sunday 15 May and I think teams are now organised but more reserves would be welcome.

BMW is on Sunday 28 June.  The selling point of BMW is that it goes nowhere near Bradford, instead you'll see Bingley, Haworth, Laycock (near Keighley), Silsden and Ilkley.  http://saltairestriders.org.uk/site/bradford-millennium-way-relay/

For more information, click on "Team Competition" in the top bar of the website. If you want to run and/or if you have any questions please email [email protected].

Farewell parkrun on 2 April - from John and Sarah

A reminder that John & Sarah are having their farewell parkrun at Roundhay this Saturday.

RESULTS

Peco Relays

The VS Boys team had to make a late substitution but still their team (all year 6 and under) finished 2nd boys team overall.

Due to a shortage of marshals and sub-optimal signage, Keira was one of three juniors who took the wrong route on her lap, consequently losing significant time, otherwise the VS Girls "A" would have won the easter eggs.

The VS Girls "B" team consisted of two year 5's and one year 2 - I'm sure they were the youngest team in the event.  They came away with a great result.

14 teams finished.

Liz Reddington was selected for the Peco W50+ representative team and she was just 2 seconds slower than the fastest in her team, running 29:22 for the approx. 3.1 mile lap   Unfortunately her team were beaten by the West Yorks Winter League Team, as were all the Peco teams, a 0-6 away win.

The Valley Striders Club team (qualifying criteria at least 1 lady and at least 1 vet) were beaten by 8 of the representative teams and a Nidd Valley M40 team.  Sadly the other team ahead of them was a Club team from Kirkstall Harriers so it was virtual silver medals for VS.  A good battle between the two other VS teams was won by Team Hussey, who had a solid anchor leg from Jean, a steady catch-up leg from Bob and a speedy final leg from John who overtook 7 other teams (including Becky).
