V S Update - 10 March 2016

Training on 15 March; AGM and food on 22 March; Peco Relays; WY Track & Field; CWR and BMW; Race diary (VSGP, VSFC, LRS); Leos robbery fund; Yorkshire Vets; Results from National XC and Harewood half marathon.

Training on 15th March

We took a look at the rugby pitches this week and there's certainly not enough suitable ground on the floodlit pitch for it to be safe to run, so it's the same arrangements as has been since Xmas, i.e.

6pm from Leos - combined beginners, improvers and juniors.  We will have 3 groups, and we are widening the qualification for juniors - just 5 parkruns will suffice (or running a Peco XC), but under-12s must be accompanied by a responsible adult running in the same group as them (but not necessarily at the same speed!).

We're hoping to resume training on Leos playing fields the first Tuesday after the clocks go back i.e. 29 March, but will keep you informed

7pm from Leos - intermediates and advanced runners groups

AGM and Food on 22nd March

At 8:30 we will be holding the AGM of the full V S club, i.e. runners, cyclists and triathletes.  Everyone is welcome.  Look out for a separate email from [email protected] coming very soon.

"Pie and peas" is on, two sittings, for food at 7:15pm book at [email protected] and for food at 8:20pm (note earlier time) book at [email protected]

Book before 10pm Sunday 20 March, choosing meat pie or veggie bake (£3.50) and choose mushy peas or baked beans. Pay on the night, but note that if you order but don't turn up, you will need to pay unless we can re-sell your food.

Peco Relays Sunday 20 March

Teams of 3 are required for the final Peco event of the season.  The junior relay starts at 10:00 and is approx. 1.3 miles each, the senior relay at 11:00 and is approx. 3.1 miles each.

So far we have a boys junior team, a girls junior team and an OAP team for the senior race.  Surely more Striders are interested in taking part?!

Either make up your own teams, or contact [email protected] and I'll mix and match.

For more details and "terms and conditions" see www.pecoxc.co.uk

West Yorkshire Track and Field League

Valley Striders have entered this league.  The first event is on Sunday 17 April and then there are 6 more dates through the summer.  For further information, click on "Team Competition" in the top bar of the website.  Note that entries need to be in by 4 April.  Any queries to [email protected].

Calderdale Way Relay and Bradford Millennium Way Relay

CWR is on Sunday 15 May and BMW on Sunday 28 June.  For more information, click on "Team Competition" in the top bar of the website. Any queries to [email protected].

Race Diary - races for next 2 months in V S Grand Prix and/or V S Fell Championship and/or Leeds Race Series

For other races in March and April and for more races after 10 May see www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsdates.htm .  For some, such as Apperley Bridge Canter, Otley 10 and Wharfefale half marathon, I suggest you enter early!

For details of the Leeds Race Series, go to www.leedsathletics.net and follow the links from there.  The Series is free to enter!  Support local races organised by local clubs!

Armed Robbery at Leos

A total of £350 (minus a few pence) was donated, thank you!

Yorkshire Vets race - volunteers needed

I mentioned this in the previous V S Update and have had a very disappointing response, only 5 replies.  I'll repeat the request, and if there isn't a better response, will cancel this event too.

We need about 30 marshals for the Yorkshire Vets race.  If you are likely to be available to help on 21 June from 6:45pm to 8:45pm please email [email protected] - NB we realise this is a long way in advance to commit, and so will understand if a few have to give back word nearer the date.

If anyone can complete any of the gaps, please email me!

There were no club names shown on the results, I've found as many Striders as I could, but if you ran and I've missed you, please email me
