V S Update - 25 February 2016

Training and food on 1 March; Leeds Race Series; parkrun mobrun; Leos robbery; Meanwood Trail and Yorkshire Vets; Results from Peco (incl Peco series), Rombolds, Liversedge, Pocklington, Ilkley

Sorry, no V S Update last week but a longer edition this week.

Training on 1st March

It's the same arrangements as has been since Xmas, i.e.

6pm from Leos - combined beginners, improvers and juniors.  We will have 3 groups, and we are widening the qualification for juniors - just 6 parkruns will suffice (or running a Peco XC), but under-12s must be accompanied by a responsible adult running in the same group as them (but not necessarily at the same speed!).

7pm from Leos - intermediates and advanced runners groups

6:45pm from Leos - monthly fell session see VS Fell Facebook page for details https://www.facebook.com/groups/1398398217056243/events/

Food on 1st March

Lasagne is on, two sittings, for food at 7:15pm book at [email protected] and for food at 8:30pm book at [email protected]

Book before 10pm  Sunday 28 February, choosing meat or veggie lasagne (£3.50). Pay on the night, but note that if you order but don't turn up, you will need to pay unless we can re-sell your food.

Leeds Race Series - Woodhouse Moor parkrun

Note that 27 February and 5 March are the last 2 opportunities to score Leeds Race Series points at Woodhouse Moor parkrun.  For details of the Leeds Race Series, go to www.leedsathletics.net and follow the links from there.  The Series is free to enter!

Parkrun mobrun at Bramley 14th May

The Leeds parkrun mobrun is the annual event where clubs attempt to get most runners to parkrun.  Striders have achieved this once, but more recently the clubs with the most have been Hyde Park and St Theresas.  The nominated date and event for 2016 is 14 May at Bramley - put in your diaries now.  If you've not run Bramley I'll let you look at the website www.parkrun.org.uk/bramley , but I will just tell you it has a very fast downhill finish!

Armed Robbery at Leos

Thank you to 30+ Striders who have already made generous donations to the fund to support Tony, Nicky and Trina.  This will remain open till next Tuesday (1st March) so if you'd like to make a donation, please make an internet payment to our A C Payments account Sort Code: 53-70-00  A/c Number: 72143851.  If you make a payment of £4.99 (or, if very generous, £9.99) it will be easily identifiable. Thank you.

Meanwood Trail Race and Yorkshire Vets race

After a review of several issues at the Peco Race at West Park, the Committee agreed that more planning and preparation was required for future races.  We have therefore decided not to hold a Meanwood Valley Trail Race or Junior Race this year, and instead concentrate our efforts on the Yorkshire Vets race on Tuesday 21 June and the Harewood Trail Races later in the year.

We need about 30 marshals for the Yorkshire Vets race.  If you are likely to be available to help on 21 June from 6:45pm to 8:45pm please email [email protected] - NB we realise this is a long way in advance to commit, and so will understand if a few have to give back word nearer the date.

Email addresses

I have been experiencing problems with my "virgin.net" email addresses.  Starting 10 days ago I have been unable to send messages and, although I can still receive emails direct to these addresses, any emails that are redirected via other accounts e.g. [email protected] are being rejected, hence a number of problems with the last set of food orders.

I now have two new email addresses [email protected] and [email protected] and anything to valleystriders.org.uk is now being redirected successfully.  If you have my virgin.net email address(es) in your contacts list, please amend.

Grand Prix points in the "Any Other Half" category to be calculated later!

The ladies were 1st team and their prize was for each of them to receive a coffee/tea mug painted with the Calderdale countryside and a waypost saying "LHM".

Snake Lane 10

32 first claim Striders and 1 second claim were the 5th largest club representation (behind Knavesmire, St Theresa's, East Hull and Blyth) which was amazing considering it wasn't a Grand Prix event for us.  The strength of the field was indicated by the fact that of 934 finishers, only 64 were unattached. We all received a mug and a T-shirt to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the race.
