Peco XC Sunday 8 February

It’s the fourth Peco race this Sunday, details at www.pecoxc.co.uk .  Best that you read through the details (and view the course maps) on the website rather than me put them all in this email.  But the main thing you need to know is that registration is at the Sports Pavilion at Bodington Fields (access from A660 near Lawnswood Cemetery) but parking is about half a mile away (various locations)

For juniors, just pay on the day, school years 4 to 6 race is at 10:00, school years 7 to 12 race is at 10:20.

For adults, you’ll need your number to register

·         If you’ve run in race 1, 2 or 3, remember to bring your number

·         Check whether you’ve been registered at www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsteams.htm

·         If you’ve not run any of the first 3 races, but you have been registered, your number will be somewhere in the registration room – look out for a Valley Striders vest on one of the chairs, the numbers will be there!

·         If you’ve not been registered and still want to run, you will be able to run as a “guest”  (NB if you’re thinking of inviting friends, note that the race is only open to UKA affiliated runners)

·         Race is 4.5 miles, men at 10:50, ladies at 11:00

Note that these are VS Grand Prix and Junior Grand Prix races.

Training Tuesday 10 February

6pm sessions as normal from Leos.  7pm sessions will be from Leeds Met but note that the track at Leeds Met sometimes gets icy even when the air temperature is above zero, so please bring a reflective bib in case we need to do an alternative session.

Meanwood Valley Trail – Saturday 18 April

Thanks to John and Andy we now have 2,000 entry forms printed and approximately 500 already distributed at parkruns and running shops.  We now need volunteers to hand them out at key races – Pecos, parkruns, Guiseley Gallop, Baildon etc

Entries are online at www.racebest.com and we already have 26 adult entries and 9 junior entries.

We also have 30 marshals – thank you!  But we need 70+, so if you are definitely or probably available, please email help@valleystriders.org.uk  and check you’re on the list at www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsmarshals.htm

Note that Striders should NOT, at this stage, enter for the race.  When we have sufficient marshals, then Striders will be allowed to enter and run, providing they volunteer to help in some other way e.g. car parking, marshalling the junior race, beer labelling the night before etc.  So if you’d like to run and are willing to do an alternative duty, please mention this in your email.

Valley Striders Grand Prix

Here are the agreed races.  Note that there is a full calendar on the website that also includes Junior GP races, Fell Championship races and some of the major cycling events – click on the “calendar” link in the top bar of the website.

We have a new “event” – “any other half marathon” – please email your results if you run a half marathon anywhere in the world!  Similarly if you run any race 26 miles or longer for the “any other marathon” event.

Note that if you don’t want to incur penalty points, you need to run at least one race from 5 of the 6 categories

The Spine Race

This is a non-stop race, the full length of the Pennine Way (268 miles) and participants have a week to complete it.  Just to make it more difficult, it’s run in January.  A 10 minute report of the race was broadcast on BBC Yorkshire TV on Monday and is available on iPlayer.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0517v1r
