RESULTS

West Yorks XC Race 3

With the overnight rain, steep hills, tricky cambers, tight corners etc, it was a challenge that sorted out the cross-country specialists from the road runners.

Also with long queues through Shipley and a major diversion on the Bingley by-pass, it was also a challenge to arrive in time for the races.

There would have been 10 but two of our team didn’t get there in time.  The women’s team were 7th, but moved UP in the overall league tables from equal 3rd to 2nd because neither the team previously 2nd (Wakefield) nor the team previously also equal 3rd (Skyrac) had complete teams.  The fourth Skyrac runner was also stuck in traffic so the roadworks were actually to our  benefit!

For the third race in a row it was 1st Leeds City, 2nd Valley Striders.

Howard Jeffrey

Howard is first claim with Otley, second claim with is.  Apologies to Howard, I missed him off the results of Roy’s parkrun even though he was on the team photo in a VS vest, and also missed him off the Abbey Dash results (more excusable as he was listed as Otley).  His times were 20:03 for parkrun and 41:51 3rd M60 (chip 41:27) at Abbey Dash

Kevin McMullan

Kevin was listed as “Kevin Sanderson” in the Abbey results.  No idea why, don’t they think we have enough Sandersons already?  Kevin’s time was 38:34 (chip 37:59)

PECO RACE INFORMATION

PECO Cross-Country League (Please note the start times below...)

Race No.1, organised by St.Theresa’s A.C. at Barnbow Social Club, Manston Lane, Cross Gates, Leeds, on Sunday 30 November 2014

Website www.pecoxc.co.uk

Race HQ postcode for SatNav users: LS15 8AD
Race HQ location map link:
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=437697&y=434564&z=110&sv=437697,434564&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=566&ax=437697&ay=434564&lm=0

In is anticipated that the 2014-5 races will be attended by many more runners than in previous years. As a result there will be some restrictions on the use of the land and facilities we are using, plus an experimental new format to the main race.

Barnbow Social Club is a private facility, with a neighbouring football ground and pavilion. STAC has arranged use of the club’s function room between 9:00am and 1:30pm. This will be used for registration before the race and presentation of results afterwards. It is also intended to provide refreshments there after the race.

Adult runners should already have their numbers. Registration desks will be divided by groups of numbers (e.g. 1-400, 401-800, 801-1200, 1201 upwards); please look out for the appropriate queue.
Entry fees are £3 for adult runners and £1 for junior runners.
All runners must register individually and present their race number at the registration desk: only runners whose names have been pre-registered with the League by 23rd November will be eligible to count towards team scores.

Changing rooms and showers in the neighbouring football ground will be available to participants in the race. Unfortunately there is only a single shower room, so anyone wishing to use this facility should bring swimwear. The toilets in the club may not be used as changing rooms. Also please note that muddy shoes and clothing must not be worn on the function room, which has recently had a new carpet fitted – this includes officials, helpers and spectators as well as competitors.

There is a car park, but space is limited. It might be necessary for some cars to park along Manston Lane, beyond the junction with Sandleas Way. With the numbers anticipated, car-sharing is essential. Manston Lane/Sandleas Way junction is served by First Leeds bus services 11, 11A & 64. Manston Lane/Pendas Way junction (approximately half a mile away) is served by First Leeds service 40.

The courses are variations of equivalent events held in the same area since January 2008. However, in anticipation of the number of competitors, the landowners have restricted our use of some of the area that has been used previously, notably the northern and eastern perimeter of the large field, which abut the streams. The start and finish points will be in the large field, on the opposite side of Manston Lane to the race headquarters, but the start points will be further away than before so please allow time to get there in time.

Because of restrictions on the use of the main field, club flags and tents cannot be accommodated immediately adjacent to the course (with the possible exception of a facility for the first aid team). It might be possible to accommodate flags and tents on the football pitch, alongside the race headquarters, instead.

It is recommended that cross-country/trail studded shoes be worn, though road-running shoes with a good tread might be sufficient if the course is reasonably dry. The courses are not suitable for spikes as there are two short concrete bridges and almost a mile along a semi-metalled track. In the adult race there is one water jump, which will be at the first half-mile. There are no stiles to cross, and it is intended that gates on the route will be kept open for the duration of the race. (Please note that the junior runners will need to cross the stream to reach their start position, but the water jump is not part of their course.)

The courses have been measured by a GPS device as follows:-

Age groups for all 5 races in the season are based on age on 30/11/14

Please note that the main race for adults will have a staggered start, with the men starting ten minutes before the ladies; this is intended to alleviate congestion at the start of the race. (It is estimated that the fastest ladies will catch up with the tail of the men’s race around 2¼ to 2½ miles.) There will be separate finish funnels for ladies and men. Start times of races will be as follows:-
