Race Calendar
Planning your racing
year? A reminder that all the races in the 2014 V S Grand Prix and 2014 V
S Fell Championship have been decided, and are now listed on the website www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsdates.htm . Race
organisers have set dates for most of these so you can now plan your racing
year!
Stop press! The
Striders Autumn Marathon Tourists will be going to Lisbon where there is a full
marathon, half marathon and 5.5km fun run. For more details, contact
Patrick [email protected]
Urgent! Manchester
Marathon place available
A friend
of mine is selling his Manchester Marathon place for a very cheap £30 since he
got a place in London. Any takers? He will pay the transfer cost but it has to
be sorted by the 31st January.
If you're still considering a spring marathon then this is a winner, loads of
fellow Striders taking part.
Let me know and I'll pass on his email. John Shanks [email protected]
Help! And Thanks!
We’re
still looking for help for Peco race (16 February), in particular for people
who are willing to marshal the senior race from 11:00 to 12:30 (you’ll need to
arrive by 10:30 at the latest) – please email [email protected].
The venue is likely to be West Park, will confirm next week.
We
probably have enough for admin (taking entries) and course set-up, but the more
the merrier for these tasks, so if you want to race but can help beforehand,
also please email [email protected].
See www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsmarshals.htm for list
of marshals to date. If it seems that there are a lot of names already
there, note that we would like a few to jog round the route after we’ve marked
it out (but before the race starts) to check that it is clearly marked.
Thank you
to everyone who replied to our request for marshals for the Meanwood Trail Race
(12 April).
We now
have over 80% of the numbers needed sand hopefully a few more of you will come
forward nearer the date, so I can confirm the race will be “on”
Race Results and
Performance Certificates 2013
Graham Jones has
collected 2,681 race results for Valley Striders in 2013, which takes the
database to 10,215 results since we began collecting in January 2007.
We may have missed a
few race results, so please check www.valleystriders.org.uk/VSPerfsByName.xls to see if all
your race results have been included!
This spreadsheet is
in name order, but there is also a version of this in date and race order at www.valleystriders.org.uk/VSPerfs.xls . NB these
files are 2.4Mb!
Using age-grading
calculations in the “World Masters Athletics Age Graded Tables” http://www.eliteracingsystems.com/2007_roadraces_results/agegrade.html we have allocated V
S Performance Grades (copyright!) to all of these races, and any Strider
achieving 5 performances at the same grade, including at least 3 different
distances, is awarded a V S Performance Certificate.
With the data we
have, we have provisionally awarded 120 certificates in 2013, taking the number
up to 460 since 2007.
To see if you have
been awarded a certificate, see www.valleystriders.org.uk/VSCertsByName.xls . There is
also a version in date order at www.valleystriders.org.uk/VSCerts.xls
For an overview of
age grading and the V S Performance Certificates scheme, see www.valleystriders.org.uk/vsperfs.htm
Junior certificates have
already been awarded at the Xmas Party and on 7 January. But we’ll give
time for everyone else to check their races have been included, so we’ll award
certificates at the food night on 4 March.

London Marathon
accommodation
Dear
Valley Striders
I am a
parent with children at a primary school in Blackheath. We are doing a
fundraiser that involves providing affordable (£35 p/night p/person) and
comfortable bed and breakfast to runners running the London Marathon on the
night before the race with all monies going to charity.
Please
could you let me know if any of your club members taking part might be
interested?
Many
thanks

Message from Up &
Running – Headingley / West Park
Dear Club
Up & Running's theme for February is Fall in Love With Running,
aimed at new runners. We're creating a community wall, with reasons to start
running, how to start running and motivational quotes, amongst many other
things.
We would really appreciate it if you could give us some information regarding
activities that your organisation is planning that you feel may be of interest
to new runners.
I really hope that you can join us in this project, and help to give aspiring
runners as wide a range of opportunities as possible.
I wonder if you could also answer the following questions, to help us get a
broad range of answers from all sections of the health and fitness community.
1. Your favourite running distance.
2. A reason why anyone should run?
3. Why do YOU run?
4. What advice would you give to a new runner?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks
Matthew Pierson
