Subject:                          V S Training Sessions from Harewood on Tuesday 17 September

Hello Striders!

As you know, we are organising our annual 2 mile, 5 mile and 10 mile trail runs at Harewood House on Sunday 27 October.

If you’re new to the Striders, you won’t know that we usually recce the routes on a Tuesday evening in September.  This year the date is 17 September and these recce runs replace all training sessions.

Juniors, beginners and improvers at 6pm

After a short warm up, we’ll walk, jog, run or even race the 2 mile course that we use for the combined Junior Race and Adult Fun Run.  (NB A shorter route of ¾ mile is also available).

We’d like all adults to run (or jog or walk etc) with the juniors.  Keep up with your own offspring (if you can!), otherwise please encourage the younger runners around you.

I also need 5 marshals of which 4 positions will be fairly central to the run, the final one is a little way away down a hill, so you need to be able to get back up the hill afterwards.

Directions and parking for the juniors, beginners and improvers – drive on the A61 from Leeds to Harewood, straight through the traffic lights, the Harewood Arms is now on your right, just after the bus stop turn left into Church Lane.  After 100 yards, pass the Village Hall (postcode LS17 9LJ) on your right and then the road peters out into two tarmac tracks.  Take the LEFT fork of these two tracks, carry on past the sign that says Harewood Estate No Admittance, you’ll see a gate into a field, the gate should be open, park just inside the field on the left.   Meet here at 6pm prompt.

Intermediates and experienced runners at 6:45pm (please note early start time)

I’m hoping that we’ll have 4 groups out for a steady run.  2 groups of intermediates running the 5 mile race route, the other 2 groups running 8 of the 10 mile route (if you’re likely to be in the slower of the 8 mile groups and are afraid of the dark, run in the faster of the 5 mile groups)

Elaine has volunteered to lead one of the 5 mile groups.  Volunteers to lead the other groups are required!

Directions and parking for the intermediates and experienced runners - drive on the A61 from Leeds to Harewood, straight through the traffic lights, the Harewood Arms is now on your right, just after the bus stop turn left into Church Lane.  After 100 yards, turn into the Village Hall car park on your right.  Please park close together around the Village Hall, leaving a space at the front for the chip van that comes around on Tuesdays!  And it would be wise also to leave space for the karate club members!  Meet at the Village Hall (postcode LS17 9LJ) at 6:45pm prompt.

Additional information

Additional information on the races including maps can be found on our website www.valleystriders.org.uk. If you’re able to help on the day, email [email protected] .  If you’re able to help but would like to run if we have sufficient marshals, mention this in your email.  All juniors are encouraged to run!

The normal V S Update will follow at the weekend with full results from the Leeds Country Way, Club Junior 1 mile, Handicap 5 miles, Wetherby junior race and Wetherby 10k (Myra 2nd)
