Fell Training (from Simon Vallance)

We are training in Roundhay Park on Tuesday 3rd April, so please can all fell runners be ready to run from the club at 7.00pm at the latest ?   This is because it is a bit further to the park from Leos than the High Ashes (3.4 miles).

This is a slight change to the published schedule as I've not been able to recce the routes around the club properly.  Anyone not wanting to run there or running a bit late, can meet us in the Tram Terminus car park (by the skate park).  We'll start the session proper at 7.30pm.  Find us on hill 60 if you're later than this.

You can look forward to:

Road shoes are OK, but you may prefer to wear trail shoes (lower profile so less risk of turning an ankle).

And finally congrats to Alastair on his sex change in time for Heptonstall.  Singing "You're once, twice, six times a lady..."

Corrections

Yes, the above was the first of several errors or omissions in last week’s V S Update

Mark Woodhead also spotted that I’d awarded 6th W place to Alistair rather than Amanda, saying “Alistair must be particularly proud of his achievement at Heptonstall!”

John Wallace said “Shocking – you missed my 67.28 from the Thirsk 10 yesterday – or have they missed it? Bit warm later on in the race but pretty good run nonetheless.  Also ran 18.58 at the Leeds park run on Saturday, my first sub 19, and I was wearing a Striders shirt – does that count in the perfromance awards – can’t remember!”  (Yes it does, John)

Clive Bandy said “My result is missing from the Trollers trot list, I was 11th with 3hr:33:55. Proof on the link below. I slogged for 3 and half hours for that one, and it was one of my best results!! http://runalong.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/TrollersTrotResults2012.pdf    also FYI Valley Striders place 3rd in the team competition at Thirsk yesterday - we missed 2nd place by 3 secs for the combined 4 times - if only we’d have known!”

A few results

John Shanks said “Went international at the weekend (well East Anglia felt like being abroad!) and decided to do the Parkrun while down there, I managed to finish 11th place with a time of 18:40 which I will never beat in Leeds. The course was very flat and ideal for a PB, quite a popular run as well with a lot of fast runners at the front.”

Steve Webb said “Here are the first set of Fell Champs scores from Heptonstall.  Superb race run in fantastic weather and the traditional blessing for runners from the local vicar at the start.  Great run from John B who was going superbly with the leaders until he turned his ankle.  I got past him twice thereafter, but he overtook me twice to claim the top score amongst the VS entrants.  Really good to see so many Striders racing so close together and Malcolm retained his V70 title.  Thanks to Matt and Sarah for moral and edible support en route.”  (now on website)

Congratulations to Richard Balshaw first at Harrogate Parkrun last Saturday.  At Hyde Park, Jon was 2nd, Gwil 4th and Jeremy 6th.  At Roundhay, there was a tight race for 6th/7th/8th with Adam, Ian, and Graham separated by 5 seconds.  Two of Kathy’s group just got in under 30 mins, Ellen Dolamore at Hyde Park and Jacqueline Hunt at Roundhay.  Note that Kathy’s group members can register with their club being “Run Leeds at Alwoodley”
