Help!

We still need 4 marshals for the Peco on Sunday (11th), so please call me on 0777 5898 558 if you can help.  It’s 09:00 start at Danefield Car Park on Otley Chevin.  Without our marshals it will be a rather dull 2 lap course for the runners, with our marshals there will be enough to use the planned route which has more interesting terrain on the second lap.  Email me if you can help or text to 0777 5898 558

Also if anyone wants to benefit Age UK with £20, then just help at their race at Harewood a week on Sunday (18th).  If they don’t get free marshals from the running clubs, they’ll be paying out £20 (or more) for paid marshals.  Oh and you still get a free bacon sandwich and/or hot dog plus hot drink which is a better deal than any race organised by VS.  Email me if you can help.

Next Week

A little change to our normal schedule

Tuesday 13th 6pm - Kathy’s Group as usual

Tuesday 13th 7pm - Striders Group from LEOS, running hills at Church Lane (rather than the usual 2nd Tuesday track session).  NB if you forget and turn up at Leeds Met by mistake, you’ll have time to jog from Leeds Met to Church Lane and do the hills.

Wednesday 14th 8pm - Drills session at Leeds Met.  For those of you that came to Alison Rose’s session at Leos a couple of years ago, this is similar but will be on Leeds Met track so will allow rather more room than when we bumped into each other in the Leos clubhouse.  The cost is £6 of which £4 is the normal track fee for Leeds Met and £2 goes to Carnegie Physios.  I’m told that 2 physios and 2 international athletes will be in attendance.  This is open to all members of Leeds clubs, places are limited and close on Sunday 11 March, go to www.leedsathletics.net to book and follow the link for “Coach and Athlete Workshops”.

Wednesday 14th from 7:45pm – Fell runners social session at East of Arcadia.  John Bottomley emailed “There is no agenda for this, in fact I would be surprised if anyone mentions running, of any kind(!) as it's just a social event”

Thursday 15th 6:45pm - Scott Hall session, afterwards curry at Sheesh Mahal

For all of these check website early next week in case any change of plan

More Dates

Saturday 10 March – Troller’s Trot.  In the last email I said it was in the VS Fell Championship, someone from the Fell Group corrected me and said it wasn’t, so I decided it was in the Grand Prix, which it isn’t either, but lots of Striders are going so hope you all have a good day (and evening/night at the campsite)

Sunday 11 March – final Peco race at Otley Chevin – Lots of Striders to run please, we had a Striders XC record of 40 runners at Golden Acre.  Can we better that?  VS Grand Prix points available.  Juniors also welcome to run – 1 mile for 8-10yrs at 10:00, 2 miles for 11-16 yrs at 10:20.  All races pay and register on the day and come early because parking is, to say the least, tricky!  Details at www.pecoxc.co.uk

Sunday 18 March – Heptonstall (VS Fell Championship),  also East Hull 20

Thursday 22 March – Drills session at Leeds Met – same as on 14 March in case you missed it or it was full

Sunday 25 March – Thirsk 10 (also Yorks Vets 10 mile championships), also Bradford 10k

Saturday 30 March – Midgley Moor (VS Fell Championship)

Sunday 1 April – Baildon Boundary Way (entries closed), also You Muddy Fools races from John Smeaton followed by Peco presentations – details will be at www.pecoxc.co.uk

Meanwood Valley Trail

Saturday 14 April – Meanwood Valley Trail - organised by Valley Striders – junior races (7-10yrs and 11-16yrs) at 10:00, senior race at 10:30, 70 marshals needed.  Dan Murray is co-ordinating marshals, please email him  [email protected] if you can help on the day.  Please do this as soon as possible so that he has plenty of time to plan who’s where.

Additionally for MVT we need help publicising the event – please email me if you can help by e.g. handing out forms at the end of races, putting forms in sports shops and sports centres, encouraging friends and relations to run

Calderdale Way Relay

Sunday 13 May - Sarah Smith is doing really well, she has a team and a half so far, but she’s entered two teams so at least 6 more runners required  [email protected]

Lyke Wake Race

Another Sarah Smith promotion, she emailed “We now have 5 but we need 6 people to make a team so I am hopeful that we can find a few more as we need some reserves.

“Race website is

“Please see the race report from 2006 by Mick Wrench and Alan Hutchinson on the Valley Striders website – click on the “For Club Members” tab and then on “Race Reports”

Miscellaneous

Marathon Talk, by Martin Yelling & Tom Williams, last week “live from Leeds with Liz Yelling”, wasn’t with Liz because the baby was ill, but had a more local special guest instead, click on the link to find out who it was - Marathon Talk live from Leeds with Tracey Morris  (oops I may have given the game away).

I’m told that the Spring Issue of Fellrunner has, on page 69, a pic of Sylvia at the Haworth Hobble.
