Subject: V S Update - Teams, Events and help needed for Harewood Races
Urgent! –
Look out for an email Thursday with estimated start
times for each pair.
If you’re unable to run, please contact your leg
captain (by phone). If you get no reply, contact John Wallace
07855-809-672.
Race numbers will be with your leg captains; please
bring 4 safety pins!
Lots of recces have been happening but we only have 3
reserves, so if you’re able to run and available to stand by even up to the
Sunday morning, please contact John Wallace 07855-809-672.
Urgent! –
Oops this slipped under the wire. The relays are
Sunday 11 September at Saltaire 10:45am start. See www.yvaa.org for details
Entries are due in by THIS Saturday (3
September), so email me before Friday lunchtime if you want to run. If I
can get sufficient for any age-group team (teams of 4 for younger groups, 3 for
older), I’ll enter teams.
Urgent! - West
The dates have now been announced for the “Complete
Runner West Yorkshire Cross Country League” to give it its full title,
henceforth known by us as WYXC.
Race 1: Sun 9th October @
Race 2: Weekend of 29th/30th
October, venue to be advised
Race 3: Weekend of 19th/20th
November, venue to be advised
Race 4: Sun 4th December @
Entries for the first race are required by THURSDAY
8 SEPTEMBER. There are no entries on the day. Still waiting to
know entry fees, likely to be between £8 and £10 for the series, whether you
enter one race or all four (not bad £2 or £2.50 per race!), so it would help
our admin if you entered now even if you can’t run the first race.
To enter, please email a special address [email protected]
Important! – Harewood 10 mile, 5 mile and 2 mile races
These races have raised over £30,000 for charity over
the last 11 years but to be successful we need runners and marshals.
So, if you’re available on Sunday 2 October to help at
the event, please email [email protected]
as soon as possible. If you have a preferred location e.g. at Harewood
because your children are running, then let us know in the email.
Similarly if you have to leave early or arrive late let us know and we’ll find
you a suitable location.
And if you’d like to run, also let us know.
Because we need so many marshals we say that Striders may not run unless they
provide a substitute (family or friend) to marshal in their place.
However last year we had the luxury of a few “extra” marshals and everyone
turned up on the day so about 5 Striders were able to run.
The other area where we need help is publicity.
One area is the handing out of our entry forms at local races. In the
list of events below you’ll see several events that are local and most of which
have some component of off-road, so competitors in these are likely to be interested
in running Harewood 10 or 5 mile too. We’d like one or two Striders at
the finishing funnels of these races to hand out forms - email [email protected] if
you can help doing this.
Most of these races (Wetherby being the exception) are
adult only, so how do we get entries for the 2 mile? Over half of our 2
mile entrants are juniors. If you have children (or grandchildren or
nieces or nephews or cousins etc) at local schools, can you publicise our event
please? The timing is ideal with the kids going back to school this or
next week. And our run is a good opportunity for kids to run for
competition or fitness and (for some) to raise money for a local children’s
charity. Please go to www.valleystriders.org.uk
and follow the link to Harewood Trail where you can see race information and
download an entry form.
