Leeds Country Way Relay (Sunday 5 September)

We have 57 names so we’re NEARLY there for our 5 teams, but of course, need reserves, probably at least 6 based on previous experiences.

We’ll be selecting teams next Tuesday (13 July), so please reply by Monday evening (12 July), selecting one of the following

  • Yes definitely (unless injured in the meantime)
  • Not fully fit but very hopeful of recovering in time
  • Not sure yet but probably yes
  • Still not sure, put me on the reserves list
  • Very unlikely but you can call me in September if you’re really short
  • Sorry, no, I’m injured and not running for 2 months
  • Sorry, no, I’ve other arrangements on that day
  • What’s the Leeds Country Way?

If you leave it later than 12 July, you’ll can still get on the reserve list!

Yorkshire Vets – message from Geoff

Many thanks to everyone who turned out to help with the race organisation. The elderly folk really appreciated the smiling faces & encouragement of the marshals, particularly Dan Murray who dressed in the uniform of a Chelsea Pensioner & sang “it’s a long way to Tipperary” while standing to attention on the path behind the cricket club. One veteran said it inspired him to such great effort that he had not run so fast since one of the Kaiser’s tanks came over his trench back in 1918.

Thanks also to Mike & Eileen for their usual reliable job of time keeping & special thanks to Pat & John for their excellent catering effort (much appreciated by the hungry runners) not forgetting their able assistant Joyce, the Voice. Conduct of the race was overseen by referee Ken who kept GW on his toes regarding the race permit.

All the vets enjoyed their trip round the trail in which VS was represented by Paul White, Carole Schofield & Malcolm Coles (winner of some socks).

Malcolm is doing the full series of races which are one per month throughout the summer; so if you have reached the great age of 35 you are eligible to take part in the series of off road events where you may score points & points mean prizes. Look out on VS Forthcoming Events for the next race!
