Brass Monkey luncheon arrangements

9 of us went for Sunday lunch after last year’s Brass Monkey to the Fox and Hounds in Copmanthorpe, where we found good food at a reasonable price and quick service (and they didn’t mind Gary Mann still being in his running gear while waiting for his partner to return from shopping at the Designer Outlet).

Same arrangements this year.  The full address is Fox and Hounds, Top Lane, Copmanthorpe, York, North Yorkshire, YO23 3UH  http://www.ukpubfinder.com/pub/42096

(Thanks to Dan Murray for the address and website link)

Peco XC – Sunday 31 January

The next race is at John Smeaton Sports Centre, details are at http://www.abbeyrunners.co.uk/PECO/race4.html

Striders teams are finely placed in all divisions (see below) – a good team turnout is required in our surge for leading places.

Busy Weekend

The weekend of 6-7 February sees 4 events popular with the Striders

On the Saturday

  • Wadsworth Trog 20 mile race in Striders Fell Championship www.cvfr.co.uk  Closing date 31 January – no entries on the day
  • Rombalds Stride 24 miles from Guiseley (not sure of closing date)
  • Yorkshire Vets XC (see above)

On the Sunday

  • Dewsbury 10k in Striders Grand Prix, the official closing date is 17 January but at the time of writing, you can still enter online at www.ukresults.net .  It’s expensive but a fast course (slightly uphill out, slightly downhill back, so if you’re looking for a PB, look no further)

Autumn Marathon

Dear VS Marathon, half and 2.5k runners

After the great success (even if I say so myself) of the Dublin Marathon, I’ve been inundated with requests for details of this year’s Valley Striders Autumn Marathon Tour. Well after much research, discussions and deliberations it’s Amsterdam.

Sunday 17th October 2010 (just 268 days to go). Why Amsterdam I hear you say! It’s flat and fast, easy and cheap to get there and back from Leeds Bradford airport, there is also a half marathon and 7.5k run all on the same day, reasonable priced hotels and beer and a massive red light district for Hutch and Alistair to lose themselves in. So I’d like to think that’s something for everybody’s palate?

We had about 24 Valley Striders that went to Dublin last Oct, with 18 running the marathon. We all had a fantastic time, both running and the local hospitality (next time, we’ll make it to the Guinness brewery, honest!  Let’s try and beat that number this year. If you have any doubts, just ask anybody who went to Dublin.

Special Offer at Up & Running

Message from Ian Nixon at Headingley branch

We are offering all club members a fantastic offer of a free Nite Vision Jacket (RRP £40) with every purchase of a pair of shoes for the next month. This is a fantastic saving, and is available to all your club members. Just get them to mention the promotion when they purchase their shoes to claim the jacket. This offer can't be used in conjunction with any other offers (so unfortunately no club discount on the shoes, but the saving on the jacket is worth much more).

(this offer is also available at Leeds Central)
