Peco XC at Ilkley – Sunday 17 January

The race is on.  http://ilkleyharriers.co.uk/index.php?page=10peco for details.  Hopefully lots of Striders there.

Training next week

20 runners turned up at Leos on Tuesday.  Our warm up comprised pushing cars round the car park so that they were in good positions for getting out at the end of the night.

We then did various intervals, hills and sprints round the 2nd team rugby pitch and cricket pitch, taking advantage of the floodlights – almost as good as daylight!

Next Tuesday (19 January) meet at Leos at 6:45pm.  If the pavements are clear by then, we’ll do the scheduled 5 by 6 minutes at High Ashes.  If not, then we’ll do another session at Leos.  At this stage I recommend everyone meets at Leos rather than some meet at High Ashes.  Check the website.

Next Thursday (21 January) ALSO MEET AT LEOS AT 6:45pm. It’s the third Thursday so it’s curry night at the Ruchee.  But there are no showers at Scott Hall, so meet at Leos, afterwards take advantage of the showers and then drive down to the Ruchee.

Brass Monkey

My number arrived in the post today so I expect another 30+ Striders to have received theirs too.

Note that the race programme says “Do not exchange numbers”.  If you are considering exchanging numbers then please read the 17 rules www.valleystriders.org.uk/17rules.htm .  Contact me for further info.

Borrowdale Fell Race recce (from Alun Davies)

I have two or three spare seats in my car on 21 Feb going up to the Lakes to recce the Borrowdale Fell Race.  Let me know if you want to come along.

2010 Fell Championship

About 15 Striders met on Tuesday evening to decide on the rules and races.  Anthony has summarised the decisions.

Few changes to the fell championship from last year. The number of races to choose from has increase but so too has the number of races you need to do to qualify.

You now need 5 races to qualify. You need at least 1 race at each distance, short medium and long plus any other 2 races from the fell championship calendar. We have also allowed any AL category race to qualify for the championship.

The scoring still remains the same with your score calculated as a % of the winner’s time and then the % is weighted according to the category of race.
