As part of
our continuation to help support the local clubs we are offering all members of
your club 20% off non-sale items this Wednesday 22nd July. We will be open
until 8pm this day to allow all members time to get to the shop. Please can you
ensure that all members bring with them proof of membership, or alternatively
if you could send an up to date membership list that would be preferable.

The Valley Striders year runs from 1 September to 31
August, but the England Athletics year runs from 1 April to 30 March
Everyone who has paid since 1 September 2008 has been
registered with England Athletics for the athletics year starting 1 April
2009. We are still waiting for the membership cards to come through –
last year they took 4 months, they’ve only had 6 weeks so far this time.
Help Wanted
Thanks to Eric Green for handing out entry forms for
our Harewood Race at the finish of the Eccup 10.
There are 3 races next weekend all of which contain a
high number of potential runners for our race.
Please please can you help at these races? Just
an hour of your time needed!

Last year there were 90 runners taking part,
approximately equal numbers from Abbey Runners and Valley Striders. There
were 5 runners in each team, most teams were 3 Abbeys and 2 Valleys or vice
versa. The route was the 5¼ mile route to Emmerdale and round Eccup
Reservoir that we used for our Summer Handicap a couple of weeks ago.
There was a scoring system and there were some winners but more importantly
everyone enjoyed the barbecue back at Leos.
We’re repeating this on Tuesday 25 August. If
you are going to run and/or you want food at the barbecue, you will need to
book by Thursday 20 August. The early notice is required so we can
arrange teams and Tony can buy food. Cost of the barbecue is £6.50.
There will be a veggie version but this must be selected in advance!
We only have 26 names which makes it very difficult to
arrange 4 teams of 12 runners. Please let me know by the end of July
whether you want to run. According to the number of runners we have at
the end of July, we’ll decide how many teams to enter. So for example if
we have 36 names, we’ll enter 3 teams – if your name’s not on the list, you
won’t be running unless someone drops out.
Last year we were 1st ladies, 2nd
vets, 3rd men. Also we are the only club to have had 4 teams
for the last 4 years. Please sign up for Striders biggest team event
of the year.
Street Athletics – Tuesday 21 July
If you can leave work a little early next Tuesday, you
can get to see Linford Christie and Darren Campbell, special guests at “Street
Athletics” at
Lasagne – Tuesday 4 August
Advance notice that first Tuesday of the month in
August will be lasagne night – meat or vegetarian versions available. You
will need to book by Sunday 2 August, we won’t be taking bookings on
Monday 3rd
