Marshals Wanted PLEASE :
Is there anyone who is running that could come and marshal the junior
race (arrive 09:30, marshal 10:00-10:30, then run at 11:00)? Is there
anyone not running who can come and marshal the senior race (arrive 10:30,
marshal 11:00-12:00)? Is there anyone not running who can come and
marshal both races (arrive 09:30, marshal 10:00-10:30 and 11:00-12:00)? Please
let me know if you are available!

chances of the 4th race being rearranged seem to be slim, so this is

Valley Striders Fell, Ultra, multi-sport and
Adventure race info (from Anthony)
I guess if Runners World calls it unconventional then
it must be the right thing to do? Here are some dates for the diary.
1st March – Open 5. I am sure you are all doing
cross country, but on Sunday, Maria Dixon is off to do the Open 5 Adventure
race up in Malham so good luck to her! 5 hours of running and mountain bike
orienteering in one of the nicest part of gods own land. I would also be doing
it if I thought my foot could handle it, unfortunately I will have to look at
the next in the series on the 5th April in the Peak district. If anyone
interested in the event I can get you free entry for your first event. Email me
to find out more. [email protected]
7th March – Half tour of Pendle. I see no-one
was fast enough to get entries for this race. Also think that most of the other
English Champs is full? I have managed to get entry for Langdale and Wasdale
but I am guessing I am flying the Strider flag alone? Also got entry to
the High Peaks Marathon, but luckily injured myself so no running through the
night for me.
14th March – The Windmill Wizz – Valley Strider Fell
Champs race. The next in the fell champs is a 6 miles multi–terrain. A
fair bit of road so good for those xc types. Entry on the day only.

the races are as follows

Mixed terrain, mainly trail.
5th April –
18th April – IROC Adventure Race Weekend – A mix of a
number of events, these are two fell, two orienteering events and two mountain
bike events. http://www.iroc-race.com
18th April – Calderdale Hike – Part of the runfurther
series and a mere 37 miles round Calderdale. Be good if you can read a map and
be prepared for a tough challenge. http://www.calderdalehike.org.uk
25th April - 3 Peaks Fell Race – Entries now closed
but there is a fair few striders out for this race. One of 4 to choose from for
the Long races in the fell champs.
26th April – Dark and White Adventure race – 4 hours
of running and mountain biking http://darkandwhite.co.uk/adventure-racing.asp

Message
from Hannah at Lineham Farm
Hi Bob, Hope all is well.
I have been offered some places in a triathlon in
Wetherby on the 24th May this year. There would be no entry fee I
would just ask people to raise money for Lineham. Do you know anyone who might
want to do it?
Many Thanks

If you were

Thank you
to everyone who collaborated in my memento and champagne, I was completely

something completely different, I’ve realized that I never let you know that at

Steve, Jane and Jenny for this and to everyone there who “donated” so
generously.
RESULTS SECTION
Ilkley
Moor Fell Race (from Anthony)
Good to see a few Striders at the Ilkley Moor fell
event. A strong field turned up for the race and this was won by Ian Holmes of
Bingley, followed by Rob Hope of P&B. Eirik being first strider home in
48mins and 14 secs in 86th. Eirik is becoming our very own off road media slut,
he always seems to be near the camera?!
A piccie of Eirik here http://www.photos-dsb.co.uk/Ilkley%20Moor%20Fell%20Race%202009/ppages/ppage58.htm
and another here http://picasaweb.google.com/BobEWightman/IlkleyFellRace#5305634088292702994
If anyone is going to or has been to any other races
then do drop me a quick mail to [email protected]
. It would be good to try to encourage car sharing and also to let other
striders know what you are doing.
English
XC Champs (from Steve)
Only one VS
vest in action at what should be the most prestigious race of the year for all
club athletes; Sara was entered but her foot injury did not get over the effort
of the Buttermere Round 20 last weekend.
Anyway it
was fantastic sunny weather and a great atmosphere at the classic venue of
Parliament Hill Fields and the mens' race of 12k comprised two very long
laps. The highest part of the course was firm going but the
lower slopes were a glutinous quagmire which took 15mm spikes, the rest of the
shoe, the ankle and part of the calf. Very hard work.

In the Abbey-Valley Challenge we were overwhelmed by
the Abbey numbers – 50 Abbeys to 28 Striders. The final score was Abbey
4658 Valley 3142.
In the end, I even had a couple of spare race numbers
in the car. We’d had 12 drop-outs and only 10 replacements.
Compensation for the Striders came in the form of 1st
place for Tracey, 3rd place for Vicky and a M40 prize for
Kevin. Tracey, Vicky and Caz won the women’s team cup (which I need to
get engraved).

For the re-match in the Autumn we’re going to have to
have a serious think about the most suitable venue for the Striders.
