Events

Most of these you already know about, so this email is just a briefish reminder

Sunday 20 May – Pulse Races 3 miles fun run (10:00) and 10k race (11:00) in Roundhay Park, one or two marshals required (email Mick Tinker [email protected] ), plenty of runners required (can enter on day) www.pulserace.com

Tuesday 22 May – Yorkshire Vets Race organized by Valley Striders at Leos, 19:30 start, a few more marshals required, thanks to those of you already marshalling, please turn up for 18:50 (unless Geoff has already asked you to arrive earlier!), ready to be taken to your positions at 19:00.  If you are able to help with course layout, please contact Geoff on 266 6288.  It would also be helpful to have someone to run the route at 18:30-18:45, again contact Geoff.

Thursday 24 May, Apperley Bridge Canter approx 10k mixed terrain from Woodhouse Grove School at Apperley Bridge, good race organized by Horsforth Harriers

Sunday 24 June, Bradford Millennium Way Relay, teams of 10, we have 12 runners so far so we need 8 or 18 more.  Please email me as soon as possible if you want to run as we need to send off team entries soon

Sunday 22 July, (don’t enter Pudsey 10k), probable date for Striders 25th Anniversary event, possibly a repeat of the 20th anniversary where we ran from Woodhouse Moor to Leos (the fitter runners ran from Leos to Woodhouse Moor first).  Followed by lunchtime barbecue at Leos.  What do you think?

Tuesday 24 July, Striders 25th Anniversary celebrations continue with Summer Handicap.

Sunday 2 September, Leeds Country Way, keep this date free, we have had 4 teams of 12 for the last 4 years, so 48+ Striders required again this year!  More details to follow

Sunday 7 October, (don’t enter Selby half marathon), this is the date of Harewood 10 mile, the larger of the main runs we organize.  Rather a lot of marshals required, please

Meanwood Valley Trail

I can now confirm that the race itself made a profit of £745, to which should be added £715 of donations, upon which can be claimed £175 of Gift Aid, therefore a total donation to Lineham Farm Children’s Centre of £1635.  THANK YOU!

Leeds Half Marathon

The biggest success for Valley Striders was the strength of the club – more in the first 100 than any other club, more in the first 500, more finishers than any other club.  Well done everyone who finished.  And thank you to all the club members spectating on our home territory.

After some detective work (there were a few Striders who’d entered before they became club members, and there were a few swapped numbers (shame!)), here are all the results I found.

I think we’ll forgive Tim Crossland for running in the blue and gold of Leeds City, knowing that it was our training session 12 days before that got him that 4th place.

First Strider was Dan Harman, only been with us for 2 months.

Congratulations to Eric Green, 3rd M50 and his first ever race prize, and to Carmel, 2nd W45, who will also receive an envelope through the post.  Commiserations to Erica, 5th W40, she actually beat all but one W35.

Congratulations to the other 35 Striders, first and second claim.

There are some photos, taken by Colin Barker, on the Striders website (follow the pink boxes for photos)

Three Peaks Race (from Mick Loftus)

Geoff and I were the only Striders to run the Three Peaks this year (there were a couple of others entered).  It was a beautiful day again, although not as hot as last year.  I had a good run by having a slower start than usual.  This lead to being in slightly better shape towards the end.  The final mile or so of the course has changed to remove a very unwelcome road section.  It has been replaced by a shortcut through someone's garden (I assume they gave permission!). This may have knocked off a minute or two.

Data collection is going well and within a week or two we should have something to show on the website.
