Tracey gets "qualifying" time for Commonwealth Games

Congratulations to Tracey who won the Bedford half marathon in 76:36, and in doing so proved her fitness to the Welsh selectors such that on 19 March 2006 she will be in Melbourne on the start line of the Commonwealth Games Marathon.

Harrogate Ringway Relay

The date has now been announced as Sunday 8 January.  This clashes with our Club Handicap.

We have some choices:

(a) Bring the Club Handicap forward to Monday 2 January but NB Leo’s won’t be open.

(b) Leave Club Handicap on Sunday 8 January – don’t enter Ringway

(c) Move the Club Handicap back to Sunday 15 January NB this is the day after the Yorks x-c

Another thought was to run parts of the Harrogate Ringway ourselves on Monday 2 January.  I have some ideas for this how Striders could run 1 leg, 2 legs or all 5 legs

London Marathon Club Entries

Unfortunately we missed the deadline for submitting our application by just one day.  Therefore I regret to announce that we have no club entries for 2006.

We sincerely apologise to Kay, Eric, Hayley and Mivvy who failed in our the Striders ballot for 2005 and were designated to have first call over these club entries for 2006.  They will automatically get first call for 2007 i.e. if they apply for 2007 and get rejected (which will be 3 times in a row) they will get the club places.

Regarding those of you that have been rejected for 2006 (for the first time), we apologise to you too.  If 2 or more of the above 4 Striders get in through the London ballot for 2007 or do not want to run in 2007, there will be some club places still available.  We will decide how these places are allocated nearer the time.  So please let me know if you have been rejected so your names can be on the reserve list for 2007.

Meanwood Trail (Saturday 8 April 2006)

The votes are now in, and I am pleased to announce that, for 2006, the profits will again go to Lineham Farm.

This race cannot take place without your support and we need about 60 Striders to help on the day for the junior and senior races.  Please put the date in your diary!

We also need volunteers to hand out race entry forms at a few local races.  Thanks to Michael and Sheila Grant for doing so at the West Yorks cross country.  The next event is the Chevin Chase on Boxing Day.  Please email me if you are free to do this.

Valley Striders Grand Prix 2006

Following the success of the VS GP 2005, with a record number of participants, we have made a few minor changes to the format for 2006 which are summarised as follows:"

3 categories - short road, medium road and fell/trail - have each been increased from 5 to 6 races.  There will again be 5 long races, 4 handicaps and 4 cross-countries so the total number of races will be 31.

As last year, there will be an "Any Other Marathon" category

As last year, you can choose between the Spen 20 and East Hull 20, best time to count, but these are on different Sundays in 2006 so you can run both and choose your best time.

And in the short road category we have selected two 3-race series, at Esholt and Hyde Park.  At each of these you can run 1, 2, or all 3 races, your best time to count.

Points are awarded at each race 100 for first Strider, 99 for second, 98 for third etc

You need to try to run at least one race in 5 different categories.  There is a small penalty if you run fewer than 5 categories.

And you need to run a minimum of 8 races to qualify for a 2006 Grand Prix T-shirt.

Leeds Country Way pots and Harewood Trail beer bottles

I still have about 28 pots and 12 bottles of beer in the back of my car, so please claim them as soon as possible as my fuel economy figures are very low due to this extra weight.
