Subject: West Yorkshire Cross Country League

I am sending this to you because John Hallas's email system isn't keen to send out to over 100 addresses.

Please reply to John john.hallas@hcresources.co.uk or Mivvy MYVVY@aol.com , not myself !!!

Fellow Striders,

It is that time of the year again when you dig out the hat and gloves and start thinking about the Chevin Chase, Harrogate Ringway and other wintery delights, not forgetting the cross country season of course.

Last year Martin Horbury did an excellent job in cajoling and extorting Striders to produce probably their best ever turnout in the West Yorkshire league and I hope this year is an improvement on that.

The West Yorkshire X/C league is a series of 4 races between October and December.

The dates and locations are now confirmed as : -

Sat 15 Oct - York
Sun 30 Oct - Otley
Sat 19 Nov - Wakefield
Sun 4 Dec - Guiseley

The races normally start at around 13:45 onwards for the senior women and the senior men go at 14:15.

I am going to co-ordinate the mens team and Mivvy Tekchandani will be co-ordinating the womens team

The main requirement is to register for the first race before Saturday 1st October.

For anybody who has not run cross country before it is an excellent way to race at a very low cost. The races normally consist of 2 laps for women and
3 laps for men and the men's races are always around 6 miles - 10K distance.
The courses generally have a couple of hills in them and the terrain can range from parkland grass, through woods, over and through steams and sometimes very heavy mud. Road shoes with good tread and fell shoes are suitable, although cross-country shoes with spikes are preferable.

A single race number is provided at the first race and this should be used for the following races. Numbers are not allowed to be swapped and there are no entries on the day.

The fee for the 4 race series is 6. Hopefully that can either be paid at the AGM or at the 1st race.

Mivvy and I have received the following names of people who wish to be entered for the series.

Rob Bumstead
Brian Hanley
John Hallas
Geoff Webster
