2005 Update 7

REMINDER FOR MEANWOOD TRAIL RECCE RUN

Easter Tuesday, March 29, we'll be doing a recce run around the Meanwood Trail Route. We'll need to start promptly to get back with some light. We'll not do the initial loop of the rugby field so the total distance will be 7 miles.Turn up at 6:45 prompt and we'll do the loop round the back of Leo's to start with. If you are 5 mins late you can join us on the path at the back of the Cricket Pavilion.

We have about 15 volunteers for marshalling and other assistance at the Trail Race on 9 April. We need 40! Are you free? If you've done this before, please remind me of your normal position. If you've not marshalled before, please select where you'd prefer to be - near Leos, behind the Buckstones, near 7 Arches, near the Ring Road or in Meanwood Park.

Please let me know by next Wednesday (March 30) whether or not you are available - the more replies I get, the lower Geoff's phone bill and the more money to Lineham Farm

TICK THE BOX

A couple of years ago, Tracey Morris ran the Otley 10 mile and won it. It was also the Yorkshire Championships, but she forgot to tick the box, so someone else won the medal. Ackworth last Sunday was also the Yorkshire Championship but 3 of our top 6 men and 3 of our top 4 women didn't tick the box. If they had, our teams would have been placed higher (3rd for the women). Most Striders are qualified for Yorkshire, you only need 9 months residence (or to have been born in Yorkshire). Always tick the box! You may win a medal if you do. You certainly won't if you don't.

Carmel won 3rd W45 prize just two weeks after her birthday, a great start to a new era. (which reminds me, I must post it to her!)

SOUTH LEEDS 5 RESULTS

Congratulations to GARY SHIPLEY who was 9th and FIRST VET in 28:24

Also representing the Striders were 38th Julian Bhowmick (32:29) and 103rd Peter Lambert (38:01). Peter was 3rd M60-69, but first in his age category ran 30:42 ... on THAT course ... scary!

MORECAMBE (TRIMPELL) 20

35th Niels Laustsen 2:14:15. Niels is currently working at Lancaster University but hoping to come and run with us soon. 4 of his teammates from Danish club AK73 came to run this race. Which was 4 more than the number of Striders, so Niels made a good choice of vest for the day.

LONDON MARATHON SPONSORSHIP - EMAIL FROM NAT CROSSLAND

As most of you know I am running the London Marathon in 5 weeks time - I can't believe how quickly it has come round. After following Tim's detailed training plan, doing 21 miles with my Dad last week, and covering about 26 miles on foot shopping in New York last weekend !

I am confident I can do the 26.2miles and I am aiming to do it in 4hrs - fingers crossed.

I am writing to see if you will sponsor me through my pain. I have chosen to run for the NSPCC which is the charity that Hays - the company I work for supports. Hays are donating £500 to the NSPCC for me running. The NSPCC focuses on children in less fortunate circumstances, giving them the help and support they need, the focus is on stopping child abuse, the work they do is all on their website: www.nspcc.org.uk

If you are happy to sponsor me please log on to www.justgiving.com/natcrossland you can pledge your £ through the above website, if you complete your name and postcode the NSPCC can claim an additional 28% from the government against the income tax you have already paid.
