Club Handicap Sunday 9 January
Fortunately it wasn't one week later because Yorkshire Water started work on the road and created a diversion of the footpath which would have made the route 300 yards longer.
Unfortunately a couple of the runners took a shortcut which made their route 300 yards shorter. Their times have been adjusted in the results. At least they will have a reasonable handicap next time.
Congratulations to Mary Harris who despite having her handicap cut by over a minute for her excellent run in the Abbey Dash, still managed to win the handicap in a net time of just under 7 minute miling.
Roy and Mark looked to be attempting to get a good handicap for next time. There will be a stewards enquiry into whether there was any doping involved.

Congratulation to Tracey who won bronze medal for 3rd place in the race and also a gold medal as 1st vet. She was also presented with a medal for best Yorkshire Marathon of 2004 and presented with a special engraved notepad holder for representing GB at Athens. It seems another trophy cabinet will need to be ordered.
The wimmins team of Tracey, Lisa and Mary were all placed well (higher than I had expected so I hope they were pleased) and were unfortunate to finish 4th, just 8 points outside of bronze team position. Lisa came through strongly on the 2nd lap. Mary was only 12 seconds behind Sue Cariss who had run 38.50 at the Abbey Dash. Jules was still unwell with a cold. Hayley was another running above my forecast. We should be optimistic about picking up some team prizes this year. Sylvia was last for the first lap but then picked up 8 places. Another 10 laps and she'd have won!
In the men's race, only Brian and Jerry finished in the top half of the field, Steve Webb was in the third quarter and the other 5 of us in the last quarter. Steve Dixon, in his first x-c race, finished 8 places higher than he had feared. Despite our packing at the back there were 3 teams behind us in the team rankings (we finished 14th)
