Saturday 27th March 1999 - 10.30 a.m.

from Old Leodiensians’ Club, King Lane, Alwoodley, Leeds 17

Start and finish at Old Leodiensians' Rugby Club, Crag Lane, Off King Lane, Alwoodley.

Start time 10:30 a.m. Estimated time of last runner returning to Old Leo's 12:00 noon. Estimated time of first runner entering Meanwood Park 10:50 a.m. Estimated time of last runner leaving Meanwood Park 11:30 a.m.

The race starts with a loop round the football fields and then follows a path through the woods to the North of Old Leo's and then down by Alwoodley Crags, passing by the end of the small car park on Stairfoot Lane. It then follows the path to the "Slavering Baby" spring. From here, the runners follow the path that runs along the back of Buckstone Housing Estate and down to the Seven Arches aqueduct. From Seven Arches, the route follows the Meanwood Valley Trail waymarked path which then leads to the tunnel under the Ring Road at Bywater Farm.

From Bywater Farm, the runners cross Smithy Mills Lane / Parkside Road (police will be manning this crossing) and go through the gate to take the path into the woods towards Meanwood Park. After 200 yards they turn sharp left to climb the hill following the path that passes close by the Myrtle Cricket Ground. From this point, the route descends into the wood and then follows a path up again to emerge at the top North East corner of Meanwood Park.

The route will be marked to cross the Park avoiding the children’s playground and car park. It will cross the beck on one of the small stone bridges (avoiding the main pedestrian bridges) and re-cross the beck on another stone bridge nearer to Hustler’s Row. The route will then reenter the woods via the footpath by Hustler’s Row from where the runners start to re-trace their steps, continuing directly back through the woods to the road crossing, then under the tunnel and past Bywater Farm.

The route then follows the Meanwood Valley Trail until the small car park on Stairfoot Lane. Here the route turns sharp right and follows the footpath back towards Old Leo's. The finish is in the sports field adjacent to the Clubhouse.

The route will be well marshalled and marked throughout.
